10 Days to a Better Blog: Blog Carnivals

Posted by Suzie Cheel | July 4, 2007 .

Day 3 of 10 days to a better blog, had me exploring an area I have read about but, so far nor participated in.

Wendy wrote that Blog Carnivals can be a great way to get links to our blog.

I joined Blog Carnival and found that this was an easy interface and simple to find areas that relate to my niche.

I joined three blog carnivals two in the personal development areas related to my Abundance Thinking themes and one in the spiritual area, where I submitted my post on Your Guardian Angel

I was interested to find there are people who have Carnivals that start each week, also long as you submit by the closing date you can probably participate in may different carnivals each week. Like anything there are some carnivals that have just happened once.

The secret here to being successful will be as with all good blogs, is to have quality content that will bring people back looking for your individual voice that speaks personally to them.

I was also interested to see that I could start my own blog carnival. So here is the link to Abundance Thinking Carnival, to be a monthly carnival to begin with, beginning in the middle of July.

All those students and masters of abundance thinking please join in.

Hello

I have participated in and hosted a number of Carnivals. My feeling is that you have to participate regularly to a number of Carnivals close to your area of interest to have a meaningful impact on long term readership. It is a good way to get exposure, but based upon what I saw, most people came once to see their post.

Call me cynical, but it can be a lot of work if your goal is to build readership. Also starting a Carnival can be a big commitment. Megan Bayliss who runs the Carnival of Australia has run 4 of the first six carnivals on her site. I am hosting the next one and hosted another previously. It takes some time for it to take off.

Good Luck

Hi Colin,

Well I didn’t go oh what have I done, I thought I will do this one, and continue to participate, and then assess whether it works for me.
I do appreciate you sharing your experiences and will check out the Carnival of Australia.

Thankyou

Hi Suzie,
I’ve had great success with Blog carnivals! Of course I do participate
regularly but I know I have gotten readers that I wouldn’t have
gotten otherwise!
I’m actually going through my site now to find you a good article for
your carnival!

Karen
